Dave Robbins
I moved to Nashville at age 20 to pursue a career in writing songs. One year later, I signed my first publishing deal. Being House of Gold Music’s youngest writer at the time, at age 21, I was scared to death and intimidated by publisher Bob Montgomery. He never uttered a word to me, except to ask if I was writing any “effing hits”.
One day I almost dropped my coffee, as he came roaring into the kitchen at House Of Gold, slapped me on the back and said, “You heard about your Kenny Rogers cuts didn’t you?” I don’t know what surprised me more; the fact that Kenny Rogers recorded two of my songs or that Bob had actually said more than six words to me.
It’s been a whirlwind ever since. I’ve had over 300 songs recorded and my discography ranges from Conway Twitty to Eric Clapton, and everyone in between.
